Swiftness and Resolve

Concerning John’s point, rapid response is always possible when offenses are of a racial nature. Johns Hopkins’s response is frustratingly muddled–combining a very sensible probation on events held by the fraternity with a draconian suspension.
How was the sentence decided? We don’t know for sure, but, according to some friends of mine at Johns Hopkins, the University delegated the handling of the matter to a panel including several aggrieved parties, including Black Student Union members. If this is true, it’s little surprise that they proceeded to cast the kid out. How about an objective hearing? Imagine the day when Columbia would hand any bit of responsibility over the Minuteman matter to the College Republicans–unthinkable.
