They Certainly Don’t Lack Ambition

A short note in Inside Higher Ed about the arrest of student protestors (they’d “occupied” a building) at San Francisco State University contained this gem of a sentence:

A list of demands on the protesters’ Web site also called for the end to wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and Gaza; a shift in university control from administrators to students, faculty members and staff; the shutdown of prisons; and the establishment of a single payer health-care system.

I can only imagine that negotiation . . . “OK, we’ve pulled our troops out of the Middle East, Israel has demilitarized, and we’ve implemented the Canadian health-care system and closed prisons in 49 states. Texas is the only holdout. Will you come out now? Is that enough?”

I wonder: Will SFSU treat its law-breaking students as harshly as it treated the law-abiding College Republicans when they had the audacity to stomp on the flags of designated terrorist organizations
