Think-Tank Complacency

David French makes an excellent observation about conservative equanimity about liberal academic domination. Conservatives emphatically should not content themselves that with the rise of think tanks they’ve established parity. As Mark Bauerlein points out, conservative scholars’ affiliations with ideological think tanks makes it easy for critics to dismiss them as shills for some partisan agenda.
The difficulties that conservatives encounter in acquiring academic posts are surely familiar (there’s no Harvard sinecure in John Bolton’s future). But this is a reason for conservative scholars to redouble their efforts, not to give up the fight. Over time, it would be to our great advantage to find Christina Hoff Somers, Richard Perle, Lawrence Lindsey, and other such figures in universities rather than in Washington, being assailed as corporate/neo-con pawns.
