Andrew Trees, a history teacher at Horace Mann School in Riverdale, has written a satire, Academy X, about what he calls “the insanity” at elite high schools regarding the college admissions process. In his book teenagers will do just about anything to get admitted in the Ivy League, including the use of drugs to enhance their academic performance as well as seduction and plagiarism.
A trustee of a nearby school call Trees an “arrogant traitor.”
Touchy, touchy. But if Trees is right about this destructive behavior within schools’ inner sanctums, exposing it could do some good.
