Universities and Terror

Candace’s post points to what is in hindsight an obvious truth: In many ways universities are an obvious breeding ground for terror cells. Surrounded by individuals who despise western civilization, radical politics don’t stand out as unusual on the college campus. In fact, university officials view it as strange if “people of color” are not at least somewhat radicalized in their hatred of western democracies and (especially) Israel. Moreover, these same universities are often hotbeds of opposition to even the most basic law enforcement measures. The following paragraph from the Daily Telegraph stands out:

Prof Anthony Glees, the director of Brunel University’s centre for intelligence and security studies, criticised university authorities for ignoring the threat to national security in their midst. “Institutions have not sought to address the problem: they have instead sought to undermine those who have raised the issue,” he told this newspaper.

No one can think that this problem is limited to British universities.  Just ask the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Georgia Tech.
