Campus diversity offices, especially those at flagship universities, are often staffed with well-paid administrators who promote progressive causes in the name of “inclusivity.” But rather than foster peace and understanding among students, such administrators tend to fan the flames of racial and political hostility. That happened recently at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where diversity leaders stirred controversy by advocating the use of “gender neutral” pronouns and urging students to avoid Christmas-themed parties. In response, state legislators are debating defunding UT’s diversity office, which has a $5 million annual budget. George Leef, in today’s Pope Center feature, explains why that may be a good idea.
