Using Higher Ed for Political Pandering

In our politics-saturated nation, anything that can be distorted to help sway voters will be. Higher education is certainly not immune from that, as Charlotte Allen argues in her latest Minding the Campus essay. The topic of her essay is the way Obama’s administration is pushing the discredited idea that only discrimination is keeping the nation from realizing the wonderful goal of gender equality in the sciences. Lots of revealing information in the piece, including that NASA has produced a manual that recommends that every university hire a full-time “Gender Equity Specialist” to monitor science departments for any “bias.” I’d like to know if any schools have gone down that politically correct path.
