What Excites College Students?

Inside Higher Ed has a story on another of those “gap” problems, namely that female students tend to treat college more seriously on the average than men do. You have to wonder if that information is different than it would have been if the same survey had been given 40 years ago.
Here’s the really interesting datum, I think: of all college students, 40 percent say that books don’t excite them (for men, it’s 48 percent). I suspect that that figure has been increasing over time, as the written word becomes less and less important in our primary and secondary schools.
