The “World’s Favourite Airline” Censors Christian Worker

The UK Daily Mail reports that a Christian employee of British Airways, Nadia Eweida, has been suspended for wearing a Christian cross although Muslims are allowed to wear jihabs.
Dr Patrick Sookhdeo, international director of the Christian charity the Barnabas Fund, commented: “Discrimination against Christians is commonplace in Muslim-majority contexts, such as Egypt where Nadia’s family roots are.   “Now we see the same thing increasingly happening within the UK.”
Eweida said BA’s action is all the more remarkable because she and fellow workers had just undergone “diversity training,” which included counseling from Stonewall on how to treat gays and lesbians in the workplace.
Stonewall campaigns and lobbies for equality and justice for gay men, lesbians and bisexuals throughout the British Isles. It has strong ties with the academic world which, for example, provides copious educational research on its website “transgender zone.”
This is one more indication that the Christian majority is being singled out for censorious treatment in the UK, while Muslims and gays are allowed to express their beliefs. Citizens of all faith and outlooks in our democracies have the right to free expression and to be treated with respect.
BA should rescind its action against Eweida. Will diversity-centered academics rally to the aid of this Christian believer? Unlikely.

The Mad, Mad Meditations of Monsieur Macron

Almost everything French president Emmanuel Macron has said recently on the topic of foreign affairs, the United States, and nationalism and patriotism is silly. He implicitly rebukes Donald Trump for praising the idea of nationalism as a creed in which citizens of sovereign nations expect their leaders to put ... Read More
