Well, sort of. Andrew Hamilton, a Briton but the provost of Yale and a chemistry professor, has been confirmed as Vice-Chancellor of Oxford, the oldest university in the English-speaking world. (The Chancellor is a symbolic position filled by a nobleman.) Another Yalie, the anthropologist Alison Richard, leads Cambridge.
Though there’s nothing in the YDN piece about it, many have speculated the British are poaching American administrators because of the fund-raising prowess of American schools. British universities, despite their age, are comparatively poor, and their libraries and other resources depleting. Good luck to him in getting Oxford back to the point where it is no longer resting on its laurels, but deserving of its lofty reputation.
