Young Americans’ Weak Vocabulary

That is the topic of Professor E. D. Hirsch’s Wall Street Journal piece today. Thanks to “progressive” education theory, students don’t learn much of substance and never develop their vocabularies. They can’t read well as a consequence, but that doesn’t much handicap them in the enfeebled world of American education — including college.

Hirsch’s piece dovetails nicely with Mark Baurelein’s book The Dumbest Generation.
