72 and Funny

Victor David Hanson’s post over on “The Corner” about Barack Obama’s strange rigidity in not flopping on his ossified energy-policy stance, designed for the Democratic primaries but not overly useful in a real world increasingly stocked with energy-attentive voters, reminds me of a humorous moment this past weekend.

A lovely couple came down to visit: she died in the wooliest liberal dogma; and he, an old friend from law school, who knows enough about domestic tranquility to let many things pass without comment.
When helping him unload their vehicle of choice, I offered my favorite bit of stoplight, hey-roll-down-your-window assistance: excuse me, but I thought you should know that someone put an “Obama” sticker on your car (I so love doing that).
Naturally, he noted with a grin that it isn’t his car. A Volvo SUV, it should go without saying.
All of which reminded me of this:

“We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times … and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK.”

So, when my gracious wife made a bedtime inquiry of our lady visitor as to what temperature they preferred, I was really not at all surprised by the unintentionally amusing answer: “72.”
OK, maybe some voters aren’t as attentive as I had presumed. But, boy, will she be surprised when she finally gets around to asking France if they’re OK with her lifestyle choices.
