The China Syndrome

In response to this post, a reader suggests some deadly externalities to the media onslaught that followed Three Mile Island:

I remember someone estimating the death toll from the Three Mile Island accident at 60 or so. I wish I could find a reference, but think it was referred to by Tom Bethell decades ago in the American Spectator.

The author of the study estimated the deaths from increased coal mining, oil drilling, and pollution that resulted from the increased reliance on coal and oil to replace the lost generating power from the shut-down of the Three Mile Island reactors.
