Club of Ecocide Prosecutions

Greg, that campaigner for an ecocide prosecutorial binge happens to have a particular other advocacy tie worth considering, according to an alert e-mailer to ClimateDepot’s Marc Morano which I also recieved.

Polly Higgins, the lawyer behind the idea of ecocide, is on the board of DESERTEC  (www.desertec.org). As press releases make clear, “The DESERTEC Foundation is a charitable initiative of the Club of Rome” Polly Higgins can be seen listed as a board member on the press releases of DESERTEC. E.g., here [PDF].

Ah, the Club of Rome: that group of Malthusians who boasted, on page 104 of their 25th anniversary back-patting exercise The First Global Revolution (in 1991, just three years after the issue had been invented, for U.S. political purposes, in a Senate hearing) that “In searching for a new enemy to unite us we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like, would fit the bill.”

Think about that lineage and possible development of a war-crimes-style trial: Come up with an issue that will fit the bill to terrify the public into accepting the strictures and governance that you demand out of fear of overpopulation (and a general control fetish), then follow that up with putting those who challenged you in the dock.

I’m thinking hard, and have catalogued quite an inventory already, but must admit that this might be the best manifestation of the greens’ fascistic tendencies and totalitarian bent.
