THE new thorn in the Rudd Government’s side — Senator Nick Xenophon — will not support the proposed emissions trading scheme.
He believes the scheme is inefficient and too costly.
Just weeks after he originally voted down the Government’s $42 billion stimulus package, Senator Xenophon is setting the scene for another showdown in the Upper House.
The Coalition has refused to support Labor’s model, meaning the Government will need to win over the five balance-of-power senators to push through its legislation in May.
