Planet Gore

Political Science

In their June 11 Evans-Novak Political Report, Robert Novak and Tim Carney predict “This will be a bad year for Republicans in Senate races. Democrats are guaranteed significant gains, and the only question is how big. The best foreseeable outcome for the GOP is a loss of three seats. Democrats’ dreams of reaching a filibuster-proof 60 seats are probably unattainable.”

This should come as no surprise. After all, see this current cooling, which as a pure coincidence is occurring at the same time as the sun remains oddly quiet:

Now see how the number of Republicans correlates with solar cycles (courtesy of the über-alarmists at RealClimate, the postings on which you are apparently paying for, it turns out; more on that later):

Having seen An Inconvenient Truth, I know that correlation equals causation . . . even if you get the cause-and-effect backward.

So either the current cooling ensures a poor showing by Senate Republicans, or they’ll do better than expected and reverse the cooling trend.

But either way, as of November, the good news is that the science on this will be settled.
