Reluctant Revkin

Andrew Revkin, the New York Times’s global-warming reporter, has several e-mails in the purloined batch of CRU material and seems to be embarrassed, if not implicated, by a couple of them. His reports in the paper, so far, have been strictly damage control. Under any other circumstances, a more objective reporter would be assigned to cover the story. But no, the Times still has Revkin as its point man, blogging on the paper’s dot.earth page.
Here’s how Revkin has elected to handle the story:

I have a story in the Times on the incident and its repercussions, which continue to unfold. But there’s much more to explore, of course (including several references to me). The documents appear to have been acquired illegally and contain all manner of private information and statements that were never intended for the public eye, so they won’t be posted here.

Isn’t that interesting? Remember, this is the same newspaper that published the Pentagon Papers, stolen from the Department of Defense by Daniel Ellsburg, that carried the case to the U.S. Supreme Court when the Nixon Administration tried to intervene with the printing, and that was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for its efforts. How times do change.
