Shifting Wind

The credit crunch and fallen gas prices have cramped wind energy’s style, but wind energy isn’t all going away.
Two main reasons why: (1) At least through 2009, the generous federal tax credit for wind energy production is still in effect. For those who are able to get the financing for wind projects, and for those already generating energy from wind, the gettin’ is still good. Really good.
(2) Chances are great that energy and gas prices will head back up under the next administration. In that case, renewables like wind will enjoy renewed appeal. If coal plants get shut down and proposed ones get blocked, if a price tag is placed on carbon, if states continue to mandate renewable energies, wind will be back with gusto.
