Trying to Add Up the Carbon Footprint of Obama’s Birthday Bashes

How much carbon was emitted in yesterday’s big Chicago fundraiser/birthday bash? Well, first we have Air Force One flying Obama in and whatever other aircraft were used to send in the Secret Service advance team. Next we have a helicopter from O’Hare to the event. And then we have this:

As part of Obama’s birthday events, Democratic officials and campaign aides were fanning out across the country to raise money for Obama. The events included New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in New York City, Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod in Los Angeles, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz in Washington, former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs and deputy campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon in Boston, and White House adviser David Plouffe in Tampa, Fla. Other events with Democratic surrogates were being held in Austin, Texas and Oakland, Calif.

Of course, now double the air travel for everyone as they had to get back to where they started.

Oh, and to top it off, outdoor grilling at the White House today for tonight’s birthday party.

What a hypocrite.
