What Exactly Do You Do, Number Two?

Talk about toddlers playing soccer. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu — most recently famous for asserting that OPEC and global energy production is not in his purview as Energy secretary — now apparently thinks economic and trade policy are.

Several trade publications are reporting this morning that Chu told a House panel yesterday that an import tariff should be imposed on countries that refuse to reduce their carbon emissions.

Nothing like pushing a global trade war, even if this is a little at odds with pushing a treaty — like Rio, Kyoto and, all signs indicate, Kyoto II – that expressly says the rest of the world need not do such things. Hey, man, if you have an idea, run with it. No thinking — or even acting — inside the box for this crowd.
