Episode 29: Innovation, Opportunities and Progress: AZ Success Is No Accident: Lisa Graham Keegan

Lisa Graham Keegan

Imagine, if you will, a time when educational choice was something only very few people were bold enough to speak about, people who understood that in order for children to have schools that were set up to serve them well, something needed to change. It wasn’t that long ago. Nearly 25 years ago Lisa Graham Keegan helped to establish the pioneering charter school law that has transformed education for thousands in the Grand Canyon State. Lawmaker, state superintendent for public schools, national advocate and now Chief Executive at Arizona Chamber Foundation, Lisa Keegan is one of a kind. She founded A for Arizona, a joint project of the Chamber Foundation and the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce that seeks to accelerate the number of A quality public charter and public district schools in Arizona, with a focus on schools serving low-income communities. Keegan, one of the nation’s leaders in education reform, talks to CER’s Jeanne Allen about past, present and future in education today in Arizona and across the country.
