Derek Jeter Reaches 3,000-Hit Milestone

In the first inning of today’s Yankees-Rays game, Derek Jeter bounced one through the hole to pick up his 2,999th career hit.

Two innings later, the singles hitter drove one over the wall in left to become the 28th major leaguer to reach the 3,000-hit milestone, the first Yankee to do it, and only the second to reach the milestone with a homerun, joining former teammate Wade Boggs.

UPDATE: Jeter ended the day 5-for-5 with two more singles and a double, for one-day slugging percentage of 1.800 — not bad for a slap hitter.
