James Loney’s Maserati Does 185 . . .

Dodgers first baseman James Loney has some explaining to do and it’s not about last season’s pedestrian .329 wOBA.

According to this Los Angeles Times report via Baseball Think Factory, last month a Maserati sideswiped several cars on the Ventura Freeway (“the 101″) “before it came to a halt in the fast lane with the infielder passed out inside.”

The accident took place Nov. 14 about 6:12 p.m. on the 101 just west of the 405 Freeway in Sherman Oaks, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Leland Tang. Loney, 27, was arrested at the scene and then taken to Sherman Oaks Hospital.

“His unusual behavior at the scene caused concern on the part  of the L.A city fire paramedics and he was transported to Sherman Oaks Hospital for further tests,” Tang said.

According to Tang, Loney was driving his 2009 Maserati westbound on the 101 when he sideswiped three vehicles for unknown reasons. Immediately afterwards, his sports car came to an abrupt stop in the fast lane, Tang said.

“The three parties involved in the collision including the driver of a 2008 Mini Cooper, a Toyota Prius and Mercedes Benz attempted to contact Mr. Loney but according to their statements he appeared to be unconscious,” Tang said. “He eventually awoke and he saw all the people standing around him. He then attempted to flee the scene.”

As one BTF commenter wryly noted, “On the bright side, it’s nice to see Loney hit anything with authority.”

The attorney general accurately gave the ingredients of the ... Read More
