Jason Varitek to Retire

Via Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe, Jason Varitek will call it quits later this week after 15 seasons catching for the Red Sox.

According to Abraham, Varitek, who played in 63 postseason games, including World Series sweeps in 2004 and 2007, will remain with the team in some capacity.

V-Tek clubbed 193 home runs, posted a .256/.341/.435 slash line, and accumulated a 24.8 fWAR during his career.

EDIT: I am reminded that the one time that I have been to Fenway Park was with my cousins Arlen and Curt for this rather noteworthy game against the Yankees during the 2004 regular season. It was safe to say that Varitek made quite an impression in the third inning.
