Re: The Al Davis Doctrine

Over on the homepage, Colin Dueck is advocating the “Al Davis Doctrine” for the Obama administration in Libya — Just win, baby!

As a recovering Raiders fan, if only that attitude were still true at the organization. I agree with everything Colin writes, except calling it the “Al Davis Doctrine.” As any NFL can tell you, “Just win baby” and Al Davis no longer go together.

Unfortunately, Obama’s foreign policy is closer to the Al Davis of today: I have no idea what Davis or Obama is planning to do next, nor do I understand what the metrics are for the action that either takes.

To me, Libya is a lot like Davis drafting NFL bust JaMarcus Russell with the first overall pick in 2007. I can hear Davis in his war room, telling his team, “it will be weeks, not months, before we restore the Raiders to greatness.”

As goes Russell’s career in Oakland, so goes the war in Libya, I fear.
