Redskins Trade: A Third Mortgage

Last preseason, we noted that Daniel Snider’s Redskins were in sore need of a quarterback (in a snide afterthought).

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Redskins have once again gutted future drafts, this time to move up to the No. 2 pick in 2012. I have to assume they’ve done so to pick either Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III.

In a pre-draft blockbuster trade, the St. Louis Rams have agreed in principle to send the second overall pick in this year’s draft to the Washington Redskins for three first-round draft picks and a second-round pick, according to a source in Cleveland familiar with the terms of the deal.

Great deal for the rebuilding Rams, as I can’t see the Skins’ first rounder being lower than the No. 16 pick for several years.

The Skins apparently hope they’ll get a guy of the caliber of St. Louis’s third-year QB, Sam Bradford. I suspect, though, that when those traded first rounders come up and St. Louis is on the clock, there will be wide receivers on the board that the Skins will kick themselves for not being able to draft. Whichever young signal-caller they draft, he’ll need more at receiver than Santana Moss, Jabar Gaffney, Fred Davis, and (maybe) Chris Cooley.
