The term “too good to be true” comes to mind when thinking about Robert Griffin III. We all watched the Redskins’ rookie star torch the Dallas Cowboys, but his postgame interview made a far more positive impression than anything he did on the field on Thanksgiving.
Since Griffin was playing his first professional game in Texas, it wasn’t a surprise to see Jerry Hill and Heath Nielsen of Baylor’s sports information department and the Waco Tribune-Herald’s Baylor beat writer, John Werner, on hand for the game.
Hill asked Griffin about the drive that sealed the game. He gave a professional answer, winked at Hill and said, “It’s good to see you.”
Griffin is one of the kids who make you appreciate good parents and good coaches. He’s always been respectful to those around him, and unlike some athletes I have been around, he has never big-timed a reporter.
If Griffin suffered a career-ending injury next week, I wouldn’t worry one bit about him because he’s from good stock. He’s one of those kids who will be a huge success in whatever profession he chooses once his playing career is over.
