Alice Rivlin Doesn’t Back Rep. Ryan’s Budget

There are a number of premium support proposals floating around, including a Rivlin-Ryan proposal that capped the growth of premium support to GDP growth + 1 percentage point. Rep. Ryan’s budget favors a capping growth to the CPI. Alice Rivlin, who served a memorable stint as President Clinton’s OMB director, believes that this goes too far. She also favors retaining Medicare FFS in some form as a default public option. If President Obama embraced something like Alice Rivlin’s position, the world would be a better place.
