Joe Nocera on the FDA

My interest in the FDA has generally focused on drugs, not food. I am partial to the proposals from Michele Boldrin and Carl Schramm to narrow the FDA’s mission in that space to determining whether or not drugs or safe, leaving efficacy to the market (and perhaps to public payers). But in light of Joe Nocera’s stinging column on food safety, I’d love to read more on how to improve the functioning of our food safety system in a cost-effective way.
