On Brownback’s Meeting With Giuliani, I Think We’re Reading a Lot Into Good Manners

I’m not going to pretend that I know what’s going on in Sam Brownback’s head, regarding his meeting with Rudy Giuliani, but I think that until the Kansas Senator utters the words, “I endorse,” the outrage is a little early.

What did we learn about Brownback in his campaign? That he’s a decent guy. He’s polite. One former staffer described him as always ”the nicest guy in the room.” He’s not the type to turn down a meeting with Giuliani. He won’t refuse to hear him out, even if the chances of an agreement are unlikely.
But Brownback also said in the Detroit debate that he was certain he would support the nominee, and he was certain the nominee would be pro-life. His supporters are skeptical that a Giuliani endorsement is in the works. (More skepticism and surprise here, here.)
We also have to figure that Sam Brownback is hearing from every pro-life ally right about now, offering their own words of caution about that path.
