The Des Moines Register, fervently defending the notion that Iowans must now and forever have the preeminent role in selecting our country’s presidents, tries to make an issue out of Tweets critical of Iowa by Liz Mair, a GOP consultant recently hired by Wisconsin governor Scott Walker.
Obviously, Mair doesn’t speak for Walker on this issue. That’s something of a shame, because there is a key demographic of voters that isn’t so supportive of a couple thousand Iowans’ being able to wipe out half the field of presidential candidates on a winter’s night, driven by issues like ethanol mandates and which candidate seemed the nicest when they chatted with him at the diner. That demographic is roughly every voter in all of the other 49 states.

UPDATE: The Iowa Republican party has an ego as durable as a Fabergé egg:
Jeff Kaufmann, the state Republican chairman, said Mr. Walker, who leads in polls of Iowa Republicans, should dismiss Liz Mair, who was hired by Mr. Walker’s political action committee to lead online communications for his likely 2016 campaign.
“It’s obvious she doesn’t have a clue what Iowa’s all about,” Mr. Kaufmann said. “I find her to be shallow and ignorant,” he added, “and I’ll tell you, if I was Governor Walker, I’d send her her walking papers.” . . .
The co-chairman of the state party, Cody Hoefert, also took umbrage. “When anybody who works for a presidential campaign thinks it’s OK to insult Iowa, Iowa voters and Iowa farmers, I find it absolutely disgusting and repulsive,” he said.
To quote Tom Brady, “This isn’t ISIS. Nobody is dying.”
