The Campaign Spot

Chris Christie Is in a Fight, but Not Doomed . . .

This poll result is a little surprising: Public Policy Polling is a Democratic firm, and while several pollsters have found New Jersey Democrat Gov. Jon Corzine ahead, PPP finds him trailing by a point. Obviously, Republican Chris Christie shouldn’t feel good about a poll showing him ahead by one percentage point, but I figured there was a good chance we would see Corzine consistently pulling ahead. Instead, a couple of pollsters have shown Christie still ahead by a small margin in recent weeks — SurveyUSA, Rasmussen, Daily Kos/Research2000.

PPP also finds Corzine’s approval at 36 percent and disapproval at 55 percent, miserable numbers. If Corzine pulls this off, he may have some of the highest disapproval ratings of any winning candidate.
