This CNN Poll Might Kill the Health Care Bill

Rarely have I seen a poll that is so devoid of good news for Democrats as they face big, important, make-or-break votes on health care legislation, as the latest one from CNN.

First, 36 percent support the bill, 61 percent oppose it. Then only 22 percent say it will help them; 46 percent say it will help someone else’s family but not theirs, and 29 percent say it won’t help anyone.
Then 79 percent tell CNN that the deficit would increase under the bill, and 85 percent say they think their taxes would increase.

Any good news for Democrats? Well, 43 percent say they trust the Democrats more on health care, compared to 40 percent for Republicans. But that’s a deep erosion of what was once the Democrats’ signature issue…

More and more, this bill is looking like a career-ender for a lot of Congressional Democrats.

I kept waiting for the last question to reveal something like, “54 percent said that if the bill passes, they will form an angry mob, collect torches and pitchforks, and storm the castle.”
