Corzine Touts His Record on Job Creation As New Jersey’s Unemployment Rate Rises

In New Jersey, embattled incumbent Gov. Jon Corzine is now running an ad that is, by his standards, not entirely negative.

Indeed, Corzine is accurate in saying the state has created private sector jobs; in July, New Jersey saw “a gain of 13,000 jobs at private sector companies, ending a string of 17 consecutive monthly contractions dating back to January 2008. The private sector growth was tempered by a decline of 7,100 public sector jobs. The state’s unemployment rate in July was 9.3 percent.”

Which is actually higher than the previous month’s 9.2 percent.

So Corzine is bragging about his record in job creation as his state endures the highest unemployment rate in 30 years.
