The Campaign Spot

Did McCain/Palin Outdraw Obama in Green Bay?

My Wisconsin Politics Guy (one of them, at least) notes that McCain /Palin spoke before “about 8,000″ at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

(Another crowd assessment: The bowl of the Resch Center, which seats about 11,000 people, was nearly full. An additional 1,000 or so people stood on the floor, many waving signs such as “The Original Mavericks” and “Wisconsin loves McCain.”)
The crowd for Obama, speaking today: “The Resch Arena, which can hold more than 11,000, appeared to be about two-thirds full for the event.” Two-thirds of 11,000 would be 7,260.
Either way, it appears the two campaigns attracted roughly equivalent crowds, and that’s a major accomplishment for the campaign that doesn’t have the world’s biggest celebrity at the top of the ticket.
I’ll grade on a bit of a curve, though – McCain/Palin were speaking Thursday evening; Obama is speaking Monday afternoon. On the other hand, Obama has the advantage of not bringing Joe Biden.
UPDATE: Two other items of note from WPG: “Obama’s is a non-ticketed event, open completely to the public. McCain’s was a ticketed event…. The only polling of that area in the Presidential race was an internal poll released by John Gard’s campaign where it showed McCain was beating Obama by about 46% to 41%.”
