Do We Need an All-Rookie Presidential Candidate Debate?

The editors of the Wall Street Journal strike a supremely skeptical note about the prospects of a Mitt Romney presidential bid in 2016. They wait until the end, and mention only briefly, all the other intriguing options Republicans have in 2016.

Imagine you could only see a handful of Republican candidates on a presidential debate stage. (The race inevitably reaches that point sometime after those first few primaries.) Which group would you rather watch debating the big issues of today?

Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Rick Perry, and Rick Santorum? Throw in John Kasich as another second-time-around candidate, as he ran in 2000; and some may perceive Jeb Bush as a de facto rerun.

or

Rand Paul, Bobby Jindal, Scott Walker, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Chris Christie?

Love them or hate them, the newcomers deserve a chance to make their pitch, don’t they?
