The Campaign Spot

Finally, a Candidate For Those of Us Who Swear at New Taxes

Late on Friday, Republican Bob McDonnell dropped a bomb in the Virginia governor’s race: The F-bomb.

“So no tax will be raised during your four-year term?” Plotkin asked.

McDonnell answered: “I’m going to find other ways to be able to fund transportation. I’ve outlined 12 [expletive] funding mechanisms that are creative, that are entrepreneurial.”

I was disappointed to hear that the McDonnell campaign insisting he misspoke, and that he meant to say “funding.” (Although next time I get a mailer from a Democratic candidate asking for campaign donations, I guess I can now write back, “go fund yourself.”)

Maybe I’ve grown too comfortable with salty language, but I see an opportunity here for a powerful, eye-opening slogan: “When some wanted to raise Virginians’ taxes, Bob McDonnell didn’t just say no; he said [BLEEP] no.”

It’s also comical to see bloggers who use the exact same word calling McDonnell “potty-mouth.” Most liberal blogs use the f-word more frequently than commas; I don’t think they can faint with shock and horror now.
