Fred Thompson is, reportedly, setting up his testing-the-waters committee.
Meanwhile, the Huffington Post thinks it’s news (a scandal, even!) that Fred Thompson helped the Scooter Libby Defense Fund. They charge it will make him look “just a mite too cozy inside the Beltway.”
Right. In a general election, longtime Washington outsider Hillary Clinton will be in position to make that charge, or John Edwards, or Al Gore… the only potential Democratic nominee who might be in position to accuse Thompson of being too much of a Washington insider is Obama, and let’s face it, in a Fred Thompson vs. Barack Obama race, the Illinois senator will get pounded on “is he ready, does he have enough experience, can he lead a country at war, etc.”
