Fred’s Thoughts On What To Do Regarding Iran

Fred Thompson, in London, talking Iran policy:

“Obviously, there are three basic choices that we have. Sanctions, regime change, or a military option. Four, if you consider doing nothing…
We’ve made some progress on sanctions, but not nearly enough.
Iran is very vulnerable, I think, in many different ways. Their economy is in bad shape. Inflation is high unemployment is high, they import about 40 percent of their gasoline because of a lack of refining capacity. There are demonstrations of various groups, with the Iranian guard being killed from time to time.
And we have a lot of friends in Iran who apparently feel that their leader is trying to drive them off of a militant religious extremism cliff that they don’t want to go over. So some of these problems might work in our favor, especially if we ratcheted the sanctions a bit more.”
