‘This is like giving USAir Captain Sullenberger a ticket for not having a boating license.’

James Pethokoukis of U.S. News and World Report appeared on Ed Morrissey’s program with me this afternoon.
He spotlighted a bank that is being rebuked by the FDIC for not loaning out enough money to risky applicants and observed, “This is like giving USAir Captain Sullenberger a ticket for not having a boating license.”
More from Pethokoukis:
“It’s cliché to say there’s a lot of blame but going around — but there is a lot of blame to go around.”
“Everywhere you turn in this mess, you can find government right there. To say this is a private-sector failure is ridiculous. It’s like Forrest Gump, where he keeps showing up at historic moments. Everywhere you look in this mess, again and again, you see government.”
On the hearings: “[AIG CEO Edward] Liddy shows up to be the white knight, and they’re treating him like Gordon Gekko.”
