The Good News: Doesn’t Look Like Terrorism. The Bad News: What Was It, Then?

At this point, there is no indication of terrorism playing a factor in yesterday’s Minneapolis bridge disaster. I’ll admit, hearing the timing of the collapse (rush hour) and the overwhelming scale of the destruction in the first helicopter footage, that thought crossed my mind.

Of course, a non-terrorism cause of the disaster is perhaps even more disturbing. If a bunch of guys with bombs blow up a bridge, you know how to stop the next one – stop the bunch of guys with bombs. With this… what caused this massive collapse? A jackhammer? The construction? How did these authorities, engineers, etc., not see such a massive collapse coming?
UPDATE: Some stunning video of the bridge’s collapse, caught on tape by a security camera, can be found here.

One More Profile of Beto, Because America Needs It

Somewhere in Texas, filed on the fly by a glossy-magazine correspondent, and totally not as a parody written by Jim Geraghty -- “It’s all about vision,” Beto O’Rourke tells me, standing tall upon the Texas prairie, or brush, or whatever this high hilltop area is supposed to be called. We’re watching the ... Read More
