A quick spin around the states voting today:
MASSACHUSETTS:
Town clerks in a couple of Attleboro area communities reported a relatively good turnout to the polls this morning in which Massachusetts is one of 10 states voting to determine the Republican candidate for president. There was a steady flow of voters at the town’s poll at Mansfield High School. A total of 556 voters had cast their ballots by 11 a.m., she said.
In Norton, there was also a relatively steady pace of voters entering the poll at Norton High School late Tuesday morning. ”There’s been a good flow, considering,” said Norton Town Clerk Danielle Sicard. “I’m hoping for a 20 percent turnout.” A total of 358 voters had cast their ballots by 11 a.m.
The polls for Presidential Primary have been open since 7 a.m. this morning in Hingham, but there has been a low voter turnout. As of 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, Hingham Town Clerk Eileen McCracken said there has only been about a 3 percent voter turnout at the Hingham High School polling location where she has been working this morning.
OHIO:
Cuyahoga County Board of Elections officials today are handling about 98,000 mail-in ballots (and still taking in mail today) in a primary that some thought might have lower turnout numbers.In fact, that figure already eclipses the number of 2008 mail-in ballots (89,937) — a presidential primary in Cuyahoga, a Democratic stronghold that turned out in big numbers for a primary won by eventual nominee and President Barack Obama.
Keep in mind, there is a contested Democratic congressional primary in Cuyahoga County, between Representative Dennis Kucinich and Representative Marcy Kaptur, who were put in the same district when the lines were redrawn.
Sandusky County voters started voting at 6:30 a.m. today, as county residents voted on a key national presidential primary and a host of local issues. Board of Elections director Barb Tuckerman said that turnout was very slow around the county for the Republican presidential primary and local races.
TENNESSEE:
Davidson, Wilson, Rutherford, and Williamson Counties:
Davidson County, which has a greater percentage of Democrats than some of the suburban counties according to officials, has had a relatively light turnout so far according to its election commission office . . . Wilson, Rutherford and Williamson counties have also reported steady voting according to election commission officials.
VIRGINIA:
Voting is underway in Virginia’s Republican Presidential Primary, and from the looks of things, you probably won’t see long lines at the precincts today. As of late this morning, less than 1 percent of Roanoke City’s registered voters had turned out. In Roanoke County, the number was 1.2 percent.
Charlottesville and Albemarle County election officials reported low turnout in early voting in today’s GOP presidential primary. As of 9 a.m., 106 votes had been cast in the city, while 652 had been registered in the county.
