Hey, Remember Swine Flu?

I don’t know enough about the medical issues involved to conclude precisely what level of coverage of the swine flu is sufficient and how much is hype or scaremongering. But today, tucked in the top corner of page A8 in the Washington Post, in the “Nation Digest,” is a five-paragraph brief reporting that the fourth U.S. victim has died, and that three New York City schools have been closed, because an assistant principal is in “critical condition” and “hundreds” of children have flu symptoms.

I don’t mean to go all Joe Biden on everyone, but doesn’t that seem like reasonably big news? For a week, swine flu was a HUGE story, and now it’s off the radar screen . . . seems like neither extreme was quite right . . .
