Hoping She Didn’t Peak in Silicon Valley

Over on the home page, I take a first look at California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman, gracing the cover of Fortune magazine at a newsstand  near you. The short version — which is no excuse to not read the whole piece — is that while few would dispute that Whitman is smart, successful, and relentlessly hardworking, it wasn’t that long ago that Golden State Republicans were hearing about another phenomenally successful figure, untainted by the compromises of a lifetime in Sacramento politics, who was going to ride into town on a white horse and terminate wasteful spending and burdensome state taxes — now many of them feel supremely disappointed by the reign of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
