The Campaign Spot

I Know You’ve Probably Never Heard of This Conflict, But . . .

Look, it’s a corner of the world that few pay attention to, the negotiators don’t have particularly inspiring life stories, and we’ve never heard them give a stirring or eloquent speech. But I can’t help but notice that Libyan officials negotiated a ceasefire between Tuareg rebels from Mali and Niger and governments there, ending a conflict that has killed a couple hundred combatants and a couple hundred civilians. Maybe the Nobel Committee should organize some sort of special prize for those who have actually accomplished reaching some sort of peace where there once had been war.

This is in addition to the other folks passed over this year.
