The Campaign Spot

An Inane Argument from the DCCC

The Washington Post lets us know the latest argument from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, that arguments on the stimulus must be binary, black-and-white, and that you must see all of the $789 billion in spending one way or another:

The committee responsible for electing House Democrats is compiling a list of Republican House members — all of whom voted against the stimulus bill — praising the legislation in their home districts. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released a list of statements from Republican politicians hailing the local economic benefits of a bill they railed against in Congress.

The DCCC oppo research includes some choice quotes, including this one from Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.) on Twitter: “If you know of someone thinking of buying [a] first home, now may be the time. Stimulus incentive is very generous! Up to 8k! Check it out.”

So if you like any aspect of a 1,079-page spending bill — spending a little under a billion dollars per page –  you’re obligated to vote in favor of it? Is this really the way Democrats’ minds work? No wonder they end up voting for so much waste — they actually cannot concieve of making their support contingent on removing the wasteful items . . .
