The Campaign Spot

It’s Like ‘Behind the Music’ for 2008 Democratic Candidates

Steve Kornacki: “The disparity between the haves and have-nots from the Democratic presidential class of ‘08 is startling. Three of last year’s candidates reaped immediate and significant rewards. The other three are now facing shame and oblivion.”

Just in case you’ve forgotten the lineup — those going on to success are President Obama, Vice President Biden, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; those going on to varying levels of scandal and potential political leperdom are John Edwards, Chris Dodd, and Bill Richardson. Dodd’s facing a tough road to reelection, and Richardson is the target of a federal probe into an alleged pay-for-play scheme.

Who would have bet that, about a year after the Pennsylvania primary, Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich would be able to look at those three and say, “Thank goodness things turned out better for me than those guys?”
