The Campaign Spot

Is Kerry the Right Guy To Paint McCain as a Flip-Flopper?

I’m glad that USA Today notes that John Kerry, now slamming John McCain for being wrong about everything, wanted to make the Arizona Senator his running mate in 2004.

“John McCain has changed in profound and fundamental ways that I find personally really surprising, and frankly upsetting. It is not the John McCain as the senator who defined himself, quote, as a maverick, though questionable,” Kerry said. “This is want-to-be president John McCain. The result is that John McCain has flip-flopped on more issues than I was even ever accused possibly of thinking about.”

Oh, don’t sell yourself short, Senator Kerry.
And the guy you’re backing has only changed his opinion on the time line of the Iraq withdrawal; whether or not he had to go to Iraq and Afghanistan to get a firsthand look at circumstances on the ground; whether he would debate John McCain “anywhere, anytime,”; whether Iran is a serious threat to the United States; whether he would meet with Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad without preconditions; whether he could disown Jeremiah Wright; whether his church was being unfairly caricatured in the press; whether he would filibuster the FISA bill; whether he supports nuclear energy; whether he would withdraw from NAFTA or not; whether he would accept public financing; whether he supported the 1996 welfare reform act; whether or not he supports gay marriage; and whether or not mental health concerns justify a partial-birth abortion.
Other than that, Obama has been a rock.
