The Leadership of Pelosi and Obama

From Pelosi’s speech:

…We confront a crisis of historic magnitude that has the ability to do serious injury not simply to our economy, but to the American people: not just to Wall Street, but to everyday Americans on Main Street. It is our responsibility today, to help avert that catastrophic outcome. Let us be clear: This is a crisis caused on Wall Street. But it is a crisis that reaches to Main Street in every city and town of the United States.

Forty percent of her caucus listened to her argument and concluded, “Give me the catastrophic outcome.”
Meanwhile, today on Fox News, Obama spokesman Bill Burton said:

I mean on Saturday night, when the negotiators were all getting together, [McCain] wasn’t making phone calls and doing the work. he was actually out at one of the finest restaurants in Washington, D.C.., on a double date with his wife. I think Joe Lieberman was there with their wives. I understand they had a great meal. It was a great restaurant. What we need to do is put the rubber to the road here. Get on the phone, get the leaders together, and get the votes that we need.

Much better to be at campaigning in Fredericksburg, Virginia, apparently, as that’s what Obama was doing Saturday night…
McCain was in Washington, with another senator. (Has Lieberman taken a position on the bill? Maybe McCain was winning over a skeptic.) Who was Obama pursuading by holding a rain-soaked rally miles away?
