Right around one year ago today, when Barack Obama selected Joe Biden as his running mate, the Delaware senator was still sticking with one of the boldest, and perhaps most controversial, stances from his presidential bid: calling for the deployment of U.S. troops into Sudan to stop genocide.
Today, despite Biden’s rise to the second-highest office in the land, there are no U.S. troops in Sudan. And Biden himself may be a bit more skeptical about the use of military force, even in current engagements. According to The New Yorker, Joe Biden is voicing “private skepticism about the prevailing enthusiasm for applying counterinsurgency doctrine as a way to ‘fix’ the Afghan war effort.”
